Private Travel Clinic in Scotland
Preparing for an international trip involves more than booking flights and accommodation. Depending on your destination, activities and personal health, you may need travel vaccinations, malaria prevention or advice about avoiding illnesses while you are away.
Right Medicine Pharmacy provides personalised travel-health consultations, vaccinations, antimalarial support and essential travel products. Our trained pharmacy team will assess your itinerary and recommend appropriate precautions based on current guidance.
Travel clinic appointments are available at:
- Bridge of Allan
- Stirling University
- Muir of Ord
- Kyle of Lochalsh
Arrange your consultation as soon as your travel plans are confirmed. Some vaccines require multiple doses over several weeks or months, so leaving enough time before departure can help you complete the recommended course.

Why Have a Travel-Health Consultation?
Travel-health recommendations vary between countries and sometimes between regions of the same country. Two people visiting the same destination may also receive different recommendations because their accommodation, activities, medical history and length of stay are not identical.
A consultation allows the pharmacy team to consider factors such as:
- The countries and regions you plan to visit
- Your departure date and length of stay
- Whether you will visit rural or remote areas
- Your planned accommodation and activities
- Previous vaccinations and childhood immunisation history
- Existing health conditions, allergies and medicines
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding or plans to become pregnant
- Whether you will visit friends or relatives
- Any destination-specific entry requirements
The team can then explain which vaccines or preventive measures may be recommended, required for entry or unnecessary for your particular journey.
When Should You Book?
Try to seek travel-health advice at least four to six weeks before departure. This provides time to assess your needs and, where applicable, administer vaccines that require more than one dose.
Do not assume it is too late to obtain advice if you are travelling sooner. Some vaccinations and other preventive measures may still be appropriate close to departure. Book as early as possible and provide the pharmacy with your complete itinerary.

What Happens During the Appointment?
Your consultation begins with an individual travel-risk assessment. The pharmacy professional will ask about your journey and relevant medical history before making any recommendations.
If possible, bring:
- A complete itinerary, including stopovers and internal travel
- Your departure and return dates
- Your vaccination history or available records
- A list of prescribed and non-prescription medicines
- Details of allergies or previous vaccine reactions
- Information about existing medical conditions
If a recommended vaccine is available and clinically suitable, it may be administered during your appointment. Some vaccines require additional doses, and the pharmacy team will explain the schedule, total likely cost and timing before treatment begins.
No vaccine is suitable for every traveller. Recommendations are subject to a clinical assessment, and the pharmacist may advise postponing vaccination or obtaining specialist medical advice.

Vaccine availability, recommended schedules and age restrictions can vary. The number of doses you need may also depend on your previous vaccination history and the time remaining before travel.

Deposit and Rescheduling Terms
A £25 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your appointment. This deposit will be deducted from the total cost of treatment provided during your visit.
If you need to change your appointment, the pharmacy can reschedule it when at least 24 hours’ notice is provided.
If treatment is considered unsuitable following the clinical assessment, or it cannot be provided, the deposit will be retained as a consultation fee and will not be refunded.
Malaria Prevention
Malaria is transmitted through the bites of infected mosquitoes and occurs in parts of Africa, Asia, Central and South America, the Caribbean and the Middle East. The level of risk varies by country, region, season, accommodation and planned activities.
Where appropriate, the pharmacy team can discuss antimalarial options and explain when to start and finish the recommended tablets. The most suitable option depends on your destination, medical history, other medicines and previous reactions.
No preventive medicine provides complete protection against malaria. Travellers should combine any recommended tablets with mosquito-bite precautions, including:
- Using an appropriate insect repellent
- Wearing loose, long-sleeved clothing and long trousers
- Sleeping in screened or air-conditioned accommodation where possible
- Using an insecticide-treated mosquito net when required
- Following the complete antimalarial course exactly as directed
If you develop a fever or flu-like symptoms during or after visiting a malaria-risk area, obtain medical advice promptly and mention your recent travel.
Vaccination Certificates and Entry Rules
Some destinations impose health-related entry requirements, which may depend on where you have recently travelled or transited. These rules can change and are separate from the clinical recommendations intended to protect your health.
Check the latest GOV.UK foreign travel advice for every country on your itinerary. This includes countries where you will only change flights or cross a land border.
If your journey requires documentary proof of vaccination, tell the pharmacy when booking. The team can confirm whether the required vaccination and documentation are available through the clinic or whether you need to attend another authorised provider.
Staying Healthy During Your Trip
Vaccination and antimalarial medication cannot prevent every travel-related illness. Your consultation may therefore include practical guidance about:
- Food and drinking-water safety
- Preventing mosquito and tick bites
- Managing diarrhoea and dehydration
- Sun exposure and hot climates
- Animal bites and rabies risk
- Altitude, long journeys or remote travel
- Carrying regular medication abroad
Make sure you have suitable travel insurance that covers your destinations, planned activities and existing medical conditions. If you use regular medication, check the destination’s rules before travelling and carry sufficient supplies in their original packaging.

Advice for Travellers With Additional Needs
Some travellers may require additional planning. Tell the pharmacy if the traveller is a child, pregnant, breastfeeding, immunosuppressed, living with a long-term condition or has previously experienced a serious vaccine reaction.
People visiting friends and relatives should also arrange a travel-risk assessment. Familiarity with a destination does not mean that you remain protected from local infections, particularly after living in the UK for an extended period.
Where specialist advice or medical assessment is required, the pharmacy team can explain the appropriate next step rather than providing unsuitable treatment.
