Mounjaro®
GLP-1/GIP treatment for weight management
Mounjaro® contains tirzepatide, a prescription medicine that works on two hormone pathways, GLP-1 and GIP, to help reduce appetite, increase feelings of fullness and support weight loss.
Mounjaro® is a once-weekly injection and is used alongside a healthy, reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
How does it work?
Mounjaro® acts on the GLP-1 and GIP receptors involved in appetite and food intake.
It can help to:
🧠 Reduce appetite
🍽️ Increase feelings of fullness
⏱️ Slow the movement of food through the stomach
📉 Reduce food intake
Who may be suitable?
Mounjaro® may be suitable for adults with:
BMI of 30 kg/m² or above, or
BMI of 27 kg/m² or above where there is at least one weight-related health condition.
Your pharmacist will also consider your medical history, current medicines and individual circumstances.
Meeting the BMI criteria does not automatically mean treatment is suitable.
How is Mounjaro® taken?
Mounjaro® is given as a once-weekly injection.
Treatment starts at a low dose and is gradually increased to help your body adjust and reduce the risk of side effects.
The maximum recommended dose is 15 mg once weekly.
Your pharmacist will advise you on the dose that is appropriate for you and explain how to use the injection.
How much weight could I lose?
Everyone responds differently and there is no guaranteed amount of weight loss.
In clinical trials, average weight loss after 72 weeks was approximately:
15% with 5 mg
19.5% with 10 mg
20.9% with 15 mg
These are clinical-trial averages and are not a prediction of the weight you will personally lose.
What are the side effects?
The most common side effects are digestive and may include:
🤢 Nausea
💩 Diarrhoea or constipation
🤮 Vomiting
🤰 Stomach pain or discomfort
🔥 Indigestion, bloating or reflux
These effects can be more noticeable when starting treatment or increasing the dose.

If pancreatitis is suspected, Mounjaro® should be stopped and you should seek urgent medical assessment. If pancreatitis is confirmed, treatment should not be restarted.
Tell your pharmacist if you have previously had pancreatitis, as Mounjaro® should be used with caution in people with a history of the condition.
